The qualities and characteristics of Sophia moments include: timing, way opening/way closing and they appear in our inner and outer world. In this blog entry, I will address how sophia moments occur in our inner and outer world.

Sophia moments occur in our inner world, for example, through our dreams and in our outer world through circumstances, situations and events that happen to us. They can appear in so many creative ways or “packaging” that you may not have imagined they would appear. It is important to note that we do miss some of them. It is important to pay particular attention to unlikely ones or particularly potent ones.

Here is an example of this type of moment from my book: Finding Blue Beach Glass. This story is about my Dad.

It was 1981. I had received word that my Dad had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. We were living in Edmonton, Alberta, which was about 3000 miles away from home. I didn’t know a lot about the disease, for very little was known about it at that time.

“The only accurate diagnosis is upon death when a biopsy is done on the brain. Dad is not going to get better; his condition will only worsen,” my Mother said.

I felt so alone and sad. I was devastated as I fell asleep that night beside my husband. I was awakened (or was I still asleep) by a presence in my room. It was a man who knelt beside my bed and gently held my hand.

“Everything is going to be alright,” he said softly.

There was so much love and compassion emanating from his being. I didn’t feel frightened anymore. I experienced this feeling of peace and a sense that I was going to be alright and so I drifted back to sleep.

So….did that moment come from my inner or outer world?
